ചിന്നുവിന്‍റെ മഴക്കാലം

                പടിഞ്ഞാറു നിന്നും നല്ല കാറ്റ് വീശിയടിക്കുന്നു, മണ്ണെണ്ണ വിളക്കിന്‍റെ തിരി ഇപ്പോള്‍ കെടുമെന്ന മട്ടില്‍ ചാഞ്ഞും ചരിഞ്ഞും കാറ്റിന്‍റെ താളത്തിനൊത്ത് ആടിക്കളിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി, ചിന്നു ചെന്നു വാതിലടച്ചു, അവള്‍ക്കു  തണുക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു, "ഇനിയും അച്ഛന്‍ വന്നില്ലല്ലോ അമ്മേ" ചിന്നു അമ്മയോട് ചോതിച്ചു. അമ്മ അടുക്കളയില്‍ രാത്രിയിലേക്കുള്ള കൂട്ടാന്‍ വയ്ക്കുന്ന തിടുക്കത്തിലായിരുന്നു, അവര്‍ മറുപടിയൊന്നും പറഞ്ഞില്ല.  സമയം ഏതാണ്ട് എഴുമണിയോട് അടുത്തിരുന്നു, ചിന്നുവിന് ദേഷ്യം വന്നു. "അല്ലെങ്കിലും അതെ ഈ അമ്മയോട് ഒരു പ്രാവശ്യം ചോദിച്ചാലൊന്നും മറുപടി കിട്ടൂല്ല" ചിന്നു പിറുപിറുത്തുകൊണ്ട് പുസ്തക സഞ്ചിയെടുത്തു പഠിക്കാനെന്ന വ്യജേന മണ്ണെണ്ണ വിളക്കിന്‍റെ മുന്‍പിന്‍ ചമ്രം പടിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. മലയാളം പുസ്തകം എടുത്തു നിവര്‍ത്തി വച്ചു. ചിന്നുവിന് ഒന്നും വായിക്കാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല വല്ലാതെ തണുക്കുന്നു, അച്ഛനുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ അച്ഛന്‍റെ ചൂടുപറ്റി ഇരിക്കാമായിരുന്നു. അവള്‍ എണീറ്റു വീടിന്‍റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറെ വശത്തുള്ള ജനല്‍ പതിയെ തുറന...
